Top DEXs by Chain
Ethereum: Uniswap V3
The original DEX. Concentrated liquidity positions. ~$2B daily volume. Gas costs: $1-5 per swap on L1, $0.10-0.50 on Arbitrum/Base. Best for ETH ecosystem tokens.
Solana: Jupiter
DEX aggregator finding best prices across all Solana DEXs. Sub-second swaps. $0.001 transaction cost. Limit orders available. Best UX of any DEX. 60%+ of Solana DEX volume routes through Jupiter.
BSC: PancakeSwap
Largest BSC DEX. $0.05-0.10 per swap. V3 concentrated liquidity live. Lottery, predictions, and gamification features. Best for BNB chain tokens.
Arbitrum: GMX
Decentralized perpetual futures. Up to 50x leverage. Zero slippage via oracle pricing. $100M+ daily volume. The go-to for decentralized leverage trading.
CEX vs DEX
DEXs: self-custody, no KYC, permissionless. But higher costs (gas), slippage on large orders, and MEV risk. CEXs: lower fees, better liquidity, but custody risk. Most traders use both. See our DEX trading guide for detailed strategies. For centralized alternatives, see PrimeXBT and OKX.
What Is a DeFi Exchange?
A DeFi exchange (DEX) is a decentralized trading platform where you swap tokens directly from your wallet without a centralized intermediary. No KYC, no account creation — just connect your wallet and trade. DEXes use smart contracts and liquidity pools instead of order books. The trade executes on-chain, meaning every transaction is transparent and verifiable on the blockchain.
Top DeFi Exchanges Ranked (April 2026)
1. Uniswap — Best Overall (Ethereum + L2s)
Uniswap is the largest DEX by volume and the protocol that pioneered the AMM (Automated Market Maker) model. Available on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, and BNB Chain.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Chains | Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain |
| Daily Volume | $1-3 billion |
| Swap Fee | 0.01-1% (depends on pool tier) |
| Gas Cost | $3-15 (Ethereum), $0.05-0.30 (L2s) |
| Token Listings | Any ERC-20 (permissionless) |
| Best For | ETH ecosystem trading, largest liquidity |
2. Jupiter — Best on Solana
Jupiter is Solana's dominant DEX aggregator. It routes your trade across all Solana DEXes (Raydium, Orca, Phoenix) to find the best price.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Chain | Solana |
| Daily Volume | $500M-2 billion |
| Swap Fee | 0-0.3% (varies by route) |
| Gas Cost | $0.001 (effectively free) |
| Extra Features | Limit orders, DCA, perpetual trading |
| Best For | Solana ecosystem, memecoin trading, lowest gas |
3. 1inch — Best Aggregator (Multi-Chain)
1inch aggregates prices across 50+ DEXes on multiple chains, finding the optimal route for your swap. Often gets 1-3% better prices than swapping directly on a single DEX.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Chains | Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, BNB Chain, Polygon, Avalanche + more |
| Swap Fee | Variable (no extra fee for aggregation) |
| Gas Cost | Slightly higher (complex routing) |
| Best For | Getting the best price across all DEXes |
4. Curve Finance — Best for Stablecoin Swaps
Curve specializes in stablecoin and correlated asset swaps with minimal slippage. Swap USDC to USDT, stETH to ETH, or WBTC to BTC with near-zero slippage on large amounts.
5. PancakeSwap — Best on BNB Chain
The largest DEX on BNB Chain (Binance Smart Chain). Lower fees than Ethereum DEXes but less liquidity than Uniswap. Popular in Asia and for BNB ecosystem tokens.
DEX vs. CEX: When to Use Each
| Factor | DEX (Uniswap, Jupiter) | CEX (Binance, OKX) |
|---|---|---|
| KYC | None | Required |
| Custody | Self-custody (your keys) | Exchange holds your funds |
| Available tokens | Any token (permissionless) | Curated (200-400 tokens) |
| Fees | 0.1-1% swap + gas | 0.05-0.10% trading |
| Speed | On-chain (seconds to minutes) | Instant (off-chain matching) |
| Liquidity | Lower (fragmented across pools) | Higher (centralized order book) |
| Best for | New tokens, privacy, DeFi, self-custody | Major pairs, high volume, fiat on/off-ramp |
How to Use a DEX Safely
- Always verify the contract address. Scam tokens copy the name and logo of real tokens. Copy the official contract address from CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap. Never click links from Telegram or Twitter to find token addresses.
- Check liquidity before swapping. If a token has less than $50,000 in liquidity, you will face severe slippage and difficulty selling later.
- Set slippage tolerance carefully. 0.5% for stablecoins, 1-3% for major tokens, 5-10% for new tokens. Higher slippage = more vulnerability to MEV sandwich attacks.
- Revoke token approvals after large swaps. When you swap on a DEX, you approve the contract to spend your tokens. Use revoke.cash to remove approvals you no longer need.
- Use a hardware wallet for large amounts. Connect Ledger to MetaMask for Ethereum DEXes, or to Phantom for Solana DEXes. Your private keys stay on the hardware device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are DEXes safe?
Established DEXes (Uniswap, Jupiter, Curve) have processed hundreds of billions without major exploits. The risk is not the DEX itself but the tokens you trade (scam tokens, rug pulls) and approval exploits (revoking unused approvals helps). Always verify contract addresses and use reputable DEXes.
Do DEXes have fees?
Yes: swap fees (0.01-1% depending on the pool) plus blockchain gas fees. On Solana, total cost is typically $0.01-0.10 per swap. On Ethereum mainnet, total cost can be $5-20. On Ethereum L2s, total cost is $0.10-0.50.
Can I trade on a DEX in India?
Yes. DEXes are permissionless — no geographic restrictions. You need crypto in a self-custody wallet (MetaMask for EVM, Phantom for Solana). However, Indian tax obligations still apply: 30% on gains and 1% TDS on transactions over 10,000 INR, even for DEX trades.
