3Commas Platform Overview
3Commas has established itself as one of the most popular crypto trading bot platforms since its launch in 2017. By 2026, the platform has evolved into a comprehensive trading suite that serves both beginners and advanced traders with automated strategies spanning DCA bots, grid bots, signal bots, and the SmartTrade terminal. The platform connects to 18 major exchanges via API, giving users flexibility in where they execute trades. For automated strategies, see our crypto grid trading guide.
The platform's user interface strikes an effective balance between power and accessibility. New users can launch a pre-configured DCA bot within minutes using marketplace templates, while experienced traders can fine-tune every parameter including take profit percentages, safety order volumes, price deviation triggers, and maximum active deals. This dual-track approach has contributed to 3Commas growing its user base to over 500,000 active accounts.
One of 3Commas' strongest differentiators is its marketplace where successful traders share bot configurations and trading signals. This community-driven approach allows beginners to learn from experienced traders' strategies while providing signal providers with an additional revenue stream. However, past performance of marketplace strategies does not guarantee future results, and proper due diligence is essential before copying any strategy.
In this review, we share results from our 90-day live test of 3Commas across multiple strategies and market conditions. We invested real capital and tracked every metric to give you an honest assessment of whether the platform justifies its subscription cost.

Trade on BitgetKey Features and Bot Types
The DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) bot is 3Commas' flagship product. It opens a base order and then places safety orders at lower prices to average down the entry point. When the price recovers, the bot closes the entire position at profit. Key configurable parameters include base order size, safety order size, price deviation between orders, take profit percentage, and maximum safety orders. Advanced users can add technical indicator triggers to start deals only when conditions are favorable.
Grid bots on 3Commas create a mesh of buy and sell orders within a defined price range. Each completed buy-sell pair generates a small profit. In sideways markets, grid bots can generate consistent returns by capturing the natural oscillation of price. 3Commas supports both long grid (buy low, sell high) and short grid (sell high, buy low) strategies, as well as a hybrid mode.
| Feature | Free Plan | Pro ($29/mo) | Expert ($49/mo) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DCA Bots | 1 bot | 25 bots | Unlimited |
| Grid Bots | 1 bot | 25 bots | Unlimited |
| SmartTrade | Limited | Full access | Full access |
| Signal Bots | No | Yes | Yes |
| Exchanges | 1 | All 18 | All 18 |
| Backtesting | Limited | Full | Full + Priority |
The SmartTrade terminal is a powerful manual trading interface that adds trailing stop loss, trailing take profit, and simultaneous stop loss and take profit orders. These order types are not available on most exchanges natively, making SmartTrade valuable even for traders who do not use bots. The terminal also supports scaling in and out of positions with multiple take profit levels.
Real Performance Results
During our 90-day test period from December 2025 to March 2026, we ran multiple DCA bots on BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, and SOL/USDT pairs. The Bitcoin DCA bot with 6 safety orders and 1.5% price deviation generated a 14.2% return over the period, completing 23 deals with a 100% win rate. The Ethereum bot produced 11.8% returns with 19 completed deals.
Grid bots showed more variable results. Our BTC/USDT grid bot with 50 grids in a $82,000-$98,000 range generated 8.4% over the same period. However, when Bitcoin broke above $98,000 in February, the bot stopped generating new trades until we adjusted the range. This highlights the need for active monitoring even with automated strategies.
Our Solana DCA bot was the best performer, generating 22.7% returns thanks to SOL's higher volatility creating more frequent deal completions. However, this came with higher risk, as two deals required all 6 safety orders before closing in profit. With less volatile assets, the DCA bot completed most deals using only 1-2 safety orders.
Important caveat: these results occurred during a generally bullish market period. DCA bots in particular benefit from upward price momentum, as deals close in profit more quickly. In a sustained bear market, DCA bots can accumulate large positions that remain underwater for extended periods. Our results should not be extrapolated as guaranteed future performance.
Pricing and Fee Structure
3Commas offers three pricing tiers in 2026. The Free plan includes one DCA bot, one grid bot, and limited SmartTrade access on a single exchange. The Pro plan at $29 per month unlocks 25 bots of each type, full SmartTrade, signal bots, and all 18 supported exchanges. The Expert plan at $49 per month removes all bot limits and adds priority backtesting.
Annual billing reduces the cost significantly. The Pro plan drops to $15 per month when paid annually ($180/year), and the Expert plan drops to $25 per month ($300/year). For active traders, the annual Pro plan offers the best value, as 25 bots are sufficient for most strategies.
3Commas does not charge trading fees beyond the exchange's own fees. This is a significant advantage over platforms that add a markup on each trade. The subscription model means your costs are fixed regardless of trading volume, making the platform more economical as your activity increases.
Compared to alternatives, 3Commas pricing is competitive. Cryptohopper starts at $19/month but offers fewer bot types. Bitsgap starts at $24/month with similar features. HaasOnline charges $49/month for basic access. Pionex remains the only free option but requires using its built-in exchange rather than connecting to your preferred platform.
Security and Reliability
3Commas experienced a significant API key leak in late 2022, which damaged its reputation. Since then, the platform has implemented extensive security upgrades including end-to-end encryption for API keys, mandatory two-factor authentication, IP whitelisting, and regular third-party security audits. The platform now holds SOC 2 Type II certification.
For maximum security, always create exchange API keys with trading permissions only. Disable withdrawal permissions entirely. Enable IP whitelisting on both the exchange and 3Commas side. Use a dedicated email address for your 3Commas account, and enable hardware key authentication if your exchange supports it.
The platform maintains 99.7% uptime based on our monitoring. During our 90-day test, we experienced two brief periods of delayed order execution totaling approximately 15 minutes. While this is acceptable for DCA and grid strategies, high-frequency scalping strategies would be more impacted by these delays.
3Commas stores user data on AWS infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. The company is registered in Estonia and complies with EU data protection regulations. Customer support is available via live chat and email, with response times averaging 2-4 hours during business hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 3Commas safe to use in 2026?
3Commas has significantly improved its security since the 2022 API key incident. The platform now features end-to-end API key encryption, mandatory 2FA, IP whitelisting, and SOC 2 Type II certification. For additional safety, always create API keys without withdrawal permissions and enable IP restrictions on your exchange. While no platform is immune to security risks, 3Commas has taken substantial steps to protect user data.
Can I make money with 3Commas bots?
Yes, but results depend entirely on your strategy configuration, market conditions, and risk management. In our 90-day test during a bullish period, DCA bots generated 11-22% returns depending on the asset. However, bear markets can produce sustained losses. Start with small capital, use conservative settings, and never invest more than you can afford to lose. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Is the 3Commas Pro plan worth it?
For active traders running multiple bot strategies, the Pro plan at $29/month (or $15/month annually) offers excellent value. The ability to run 25 bots across 18 exchanges, combined with full SmartTrade access and signal bot integration, justifies the cost if you are trading regularly. The free plan is sufficient for testing the platform, but the single-bot limitation makes it impractical for serious use.
